Pulsed light or IPL
Definition and objectives
Broken veins and brown patches on the face or body are treated used pulsed light (IPL) technology. Broken veins are seen in the form of red patches on the chin, tip of the nose, forehead and cheeks. They are caused by permanent dilation of the blood vessels in the face which leads to the formation of brown patches due to enhanced pigmentation.
The advantage of treating broken veins and brown patches with laser is that it is not very painful and there are no after-effects.
Prior to surgery
Facial rejuvenation treatment specific to each person will be offered based on:
Skin analysis in terms of:
- skin type and quality,
- degree of skin alteration caused by the sun,
- cutaneous elasticity,
- pigment and vascular lesions,
- toxic status (refer to exposure to smoking/UV/pollution and lifestyle),
- dermatological check-up to screen for precancerous or skin cancer conditions.
Other parts of the body (hands, decolletage…) are also examined.
A combination of techniques:
- IPL, mesotherapy, radiofrequency, peeling and LED.
Repair principles:
- re-establishment of the dermis’ physiological function,
- reduction in free radicals (which cause cell damage and lesions),
- absence of side effects.
Desired result
This overall treatment plan leads to a harmonious and long-lasting result.
Photosensitizing medication must not be taken and skin should not be exposed to the sun or UV for 3 weeks prior to the treatment session.
The procedure
Pulsed light reduces dilation of the blood vessels and destroys pigments. The whole face is treated, including non-altered zones to prevent the appearance of new lesions. The procedure is short and only very slightly painful.
After-effects
The after-effects are straightforward, with mild redness for 1 to 2 hours after the session. There is no need not to appear in public.
Photosensitizing medication must not be taken and skin should not be exposed to the sun or UV for 3 weeks after treatment.
Result
The result can be seen in terms of:
- a more even complexion,
- disappearance of patches,
- improvement in broken veins,
- increased skin tone and firmness,
- tightening of pores.
3 to 6 sessions are necessary on average, with a minimum of 3-week intervals between sessions.
