Radiofrequency
Definition and objectives
Radiofrequency increases the thickness and firmness of the skin, reduces acne and scarring, firms the skin after liposuction and treats skin after a facelift. At present, it is the only method that regenerates the deepest layers of the dermis.
Prior to the procedure
Facial rejuvenation treatment specific to each person will be offered based on:
Skin analysis in terms of:
- skin type and quality,
- degree of skin alteration caused by the sun,
- cutaneous elasticity,
- pigment and vascular lesions,
- toxic status (refer to exposure to smoking/UV/pollution and lifestyle),
- dermatological check-up to screen for precancerous or skin cancer conditions.
Other parts of the body (hands, decolletage…) are also examined.
A combination of techniques:
- IPL, mesotherapy, radiofrequency, peeling and LED.
Repair principles:
- re-establishment of the dermis’ physiological function,
- reduction in free radicals (which cause cell damage and lesions),
- absence of side effects.
Desired result
This overall treatment plan leads to a harmonious and long-lasting result.
The procedure
This technique produces a current that generates controlled heat on the dermis and subcutaneous tissue in order to increase the production of collagen (the most abundant protein in the body) deep inside the dermis. The epidermis is protected and there is no risk of burns.
The immediate effect is contraction of the collagen fibres leading to skin retraction. The gradual effect triggers the production of new collagen and this results in remodelling of the face and a reduction in the sebaceous glands which cause acne.
As this technique enhances blood circulation, it also has a draining effect on the skin and therefore improves orange-peel skin.
The session lasts about 20 minutes during which the patient feels some cutaneous warmth.
After-effects
There are no side effects after a radiofrequency session. The patient should avoid any exposure to the sun for 48 hours and should apply creams prescribed by the practitioner to the skin. Normal activities (work and sports) can be resumed immediately.
Result
The result can be seen after 5 sessions, with 2 to 3 week intervals between sessions. Skin seems denser, firmer and slightly tightened. The sebaceous glands which cause acne are also reduced. For a lasting effect, treatment should be repeated every 6 months.
